About Crystal Waterton
Editor & Filmmaker, Crystal Waterton started her film career at Montclair State University where she studied Broadcasting and Spanish Language. She created her first short film Estudiante en el Extranjero (Student Abroad), while studying abroad in Madrid, Spain. The film documented her travels across Paris, Amsterdam, Spain and Morocco. Her first thesis film, Man in the Mirror; a short documentary featuring a student drag queen, represented her University at the Student Emmy Awards. She went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting.
Crystal has worked at various productions and television networks, including The Montel Williams Show, The Martha Stewart Show, Inside Edition, The Sundance Channel and most recently NBCUniversal. In 2017, Crystal earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in Integrated Media Arts at Hunter College.
Today, Crystal continues to edit, film and create poignant short documentaries that shed light on the issues of marginalized communities and provide audiences a visual medium that encourage discussion and action. Her most recent film; Decoding DarkMatter is a 4x award winning short documentary about the journey of two South-East Asian transgender performance poetry artists. Decoding DarkMatter has won awards for Best Documentary at the 2017 Asian American Film Festival, Best College Short at the 2018 Denton Black Film Festival, Audience Award for Best Short Documentary at the 2018 Boston Asian American Film Festival and Best Director in 2018's Queen's World Film Festival.
Crystal Waterton is currently a Video Editor for Conde Nast, editing Social media content for brands such as Vogue, SELF, GQ, Glamour, Teen Vogue, Vanity Fair, & Allure.
Crystal also continues to work as an editor on special projects for Netflix.
